8’ x 34’ mural on Davison’s Drug & Stationery; Colusa, CA; 2019
In the summer of 2019, a group of artists gathered in a small historic town in Northern California to explore art and social practice in a place outside our own. We each chose different projects that expressed an individual sense of agency in the context of Colusa and its inhabitants. It was a way of integrating different lives, perspectives and expressions while finding common ground. I painted a mural that displays the beauty of the everyday as well as the feminine, non-European perspective that is underrepresented. The mural was inspired by a local woman named Peggy “the cactus lady”, who lovingly nurtures her many plants and sells/gives away starters from her driveway.
A volunteer-based project with Pow! Wow! Nepal to help improve the conditions of Koseli School in Kathmandu, where the poorest of children seek an education. Multiple artists participated in painting murals and teaching workshops to the students. This mural was completed in the girls’ bathroom, hoping to provide a small bit of solace from some of the harsh environments; 2018
